MEET BRITNEY

I am a proud Memphian of 36 years, raised and currently living in Historic Orange Mound.

An esteemed graduate of Memphis Harding Academy, Baylor University, and the University of Pennsylvania, I am proud to represent my city and county well. My passion for public service is rooted in my commitment to serving people–starting with the most vulnerable. The majority of my career has been in direct service as a nonprofit leader, educator, and current elected official. Representing 75,000 people across over 15 neighborhoods, I am ready to serve Shelby County as a whole.

My leadership extends back to being 3rd grade class President. Ever since then I have remained focused on being a servant leader. Roles like being Senior Class President, President of my Ivy-league graduate school, President of my sorority Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated all prepared me to know what it means to be both a figurehead and teambuilder. Administratively, I am one of the youngest On-Site Directors for Duke University’s TIP program and currently represent Shelby County as an appointee to the Tennessee County Services Association. As the youngest woman elected to the Shelby County Commission and founder of the nonprofit JUICE Orange Mound, I am a certified and accomplished leader.

In any leadership position I have ever held, my motivation is the all-encompassing vision I have chased. Whether in the classroom as a middle school teacher in South Memphis or in the boardroom representing 75,000 constituents, I always go hard for those I represent and serve. My focus for my first term will be reviving the office and setting a standard of excellence that leaves all citizens proud of the turnaround and pleased with the performance of the Clerk’s office.

The sprint ahead will have our next County Clerk decided in the next 5 months. Our campaign team is excited to compel 20,000 citizens to vote with confidence this May 5th for Britney Thornton!

Supporters can share their good or bad experiences with the current Clerk office and offer suggestions for their ideal office. Of course, it takes money to reach the masses and we welcome you to make a commitment of at least $25 today.

Our fundraising goal is set. We will raise $130,000 by April 1st and need your support. Make your first campaign contribution today!

The County Clerk’s Office reaches every household in the county. We deserve an office that makes us proud. I have served our city and county and ask for your vote to become your next Shelby County Clerk.
